Vol. 370 No. 5

Written Answers. - Community Markets.

37.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if in the light of the Council meeting on the internal market of 7 October 1985, where it was agreed that the Council would adopt an overview approach to the methods necessary for achievement of the objectives set by the European Council in regard to the Commission's White Paper, he will make a statement on the success to date of this approach; and whether he is satisfied with the level of progress to-date.

Limerick East): Some significant progress has been made in certain areas but there has been slippage by the Council and the Commission in meeting the timetables envisaged by them. I have stressed to the Council the need to make greater efforts to catch up and to eliminate obstacles to trade in the internal market of the Community more quickly. This will be of benefit to Ireland given our high dependency on Community markets for our exports.
