Vol. 370 No. 9

Written Answers. - Post Primary School, Tallaght.

206.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in the construction of the second level school in the Kingswood / Kilnamanagh area of Tallaght, Dublin, which has now been delayed for almost ten years; when work is intended to commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

207.

asked the Minister for Education if he has received a report from the advisory council on post-primary education in relation to the proposed second-level school at Castleview, Kilnamanagh, Tallaght, Dublin 24; and when he is likely to make a decision arising from the report.

208.

asked the Minister for Education if he has received any new information or advice that might encourage his Department to approve the building of a post primary school for the Kilnamanagh / Kingswood area of Tallaght; if he will accept that the number of students leaving the primary schools in the area, 170 in 1987, 205 in 1988, 230 in 1989 and 270 in 1990, justifies the provision of this facility; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

209.

asked the Minister for Education if he has now received the recommendation of the post-primary accommodation group regarding the provision of a post-primary school at Castleview, Kingswood Heights, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the present position taking Deputy Taylor's representations into account for the urgent need for this post-primary school at this location.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 206, 207, 208 and 209 together. The question of the provision of a post-primary school in the Castleview / Kilnamanagh area of Tallaght has been under continuing review in my Department for some time. My Department has to be satisfied that there will be an ongoing need for an additional school in the Tallaght area over a period of time having particular regard to the availability of post-primary accommodation in adjacent areas before the provision of such an additional school can be approved.

The whole question was discussed at a meeting of the Advisory Council on post-primary accommodation for the greater Dublin area on the 3 December last. As soon as the recommendation of the Council is available to me I will give the question of the provision of a post-primary school in the Castleview / Kilnamanagh area sympathetic consideration.
