Responsibility for the administration of the capital grants scheme for the construction of recreational facilities was transferred to my Department from the Department of Labour in May of this year.
Grant allocations made under the terms of the scheme amounted to £2,127,200 approximately in 1985 and £799,000 in 1986. A further sum of £220,000 was allocated during 1986 in respect of a number of projects included in the west Cork development package being administered by my Department.
At present, my Department has on record 282 applications seeking capital grant assistance towards the provision of recreational facilities.
I would also refer the Deputy to a reply given by me in response to a question on this matter on Thursday, 20 November 1986. I propose to circulate in the Official Report a schedule of capital grant allocations made in 1985 and 1986.
