Vol. 371 No. 8

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Funding.

139.

asked the Minister for the Environment the exact funding provided by the State for a proposed swimming pool (details supplied) in County Louth; the type of funding granted; and if the same funding will be provided for a proposed swimming pool in County Wexford.

I have no proposals before me for financing the provision of swimming pools in Dundalk or Enniscorthy and my Department has not provided funding of the kind referred to for a pool in Dundalk. Local authorities can, with my approval, borrow up to 80 per cent of the cost of providing a pool and my Department meets 50 per cent of the loan charges arising on such borrowing. When applications for approval to borrowing for the purpose of providing swimming pools are received, I will consider them in the light of the constraints of the public capital programme.
