Vol. 371 No. 8

Written Answers. - Verolme Dockyard.

108.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the up-to-date position in regard to the takeover of Verolme Cork Dockyard for the commencement of work on a commercial basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy will be aware, the receiver, who is the person responsible for the disposal of the assets of Verolme Cork Dockyard, has been involved in discussions for some time now with a number of parties who have expressed interest in acquiring the assets. The negotiations, I understand, are now entering their final phase and in the circumstances I am sure the Deputy will appreciate that it would be inappropriate for me to make any further comment at this stage. I understand it remains the receiver's objective to dispose of the assets in a manner which will facilitate an early resumption of activity and employment at the yard.
