asked the Minister for Education the Government's policy regarding the local youth service boards; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 19 and 98 together. The policy of establishing local youth service boards was introduced by the previous Government. However, this Government believes that greater emphasis should be given to the creation of voluntary youth service councils at local level. Consequently the whole question of future structures for youth service at local level is under review at present in consultation with interested organisations. On the general question of national youth policy as indicated in the document "In Partnership with Youth" I can confirm what was indicated in the budget speech i.e. that the whole question is being re-examined and further development will take place in line with available resources.
