Vol. 372 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Transport Scheme.

29.

asked the Minister for Education the reason children (details supplied) in County Meath are collected from Rathkenny at 7.55 a.m. to attend St. Patrick's classical school, Navan, County Meath; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy may be aware, as a general arrangement, pupils under the school transport scheme conveyed to post-primary centres are set down and picked up at designated central points, rather than at individual schools; also that for reasons of economic operation, buses must very often make double journeys morning and evening.

The pupils concerned in the Deputy's question has a morning pick-up time at 7.55 a.m. from Stackallen.

The standard of service which is available to this pupil is considered adequate and is within the time limits with regard to travelling and waiting time laid down in relation to the general operation of the post-primary transport scheme.

In the circumstances, it is not proposed to alter the existing arrangements.
