asked the Minister for Energy if he will give details of the precise plans for additional peat development; the cost of same; the additional jobs involved and the corresponding time scale; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Peat Development.
I assume the Deputy is referring to my recent statement concerning a submission for EC funding under Council Regulations (EEC) No. 3301/86. The submission regarding peat was prepared in consultation with Bord na Móna. Details are as follows:—

The employment figures supplied by Bord na Móna relate to both the continuation of existing jobs (which would otherwise cease as existing bogs are phased out) and new jobs. Approximately one-third of the total would be new jobs. While I am not in a position to give details of the precise work schedule for each of the bogs in question since this is an operational matter for Bord na Móna, I can say that, taken in the overall, development of these additional areas will span the five-year period over which EC assistance can be made available under the terms of the regulation mentioned above.
