Vol. 373 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fish Culture Licences.

15.

asked the Minister for the Marine the conditions his Department intend attaching to fish culture licences for inland fish farms; the responsbile body for the prosecution of licensees who are in breach of the regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The conditions applied to licences for inland fish farms include, inter alia: specification of the duration of the licence and of the nature and amount of stock that can be kept; the nature of the records to be maintained on the farms; the requirements for regular stock and environmental monitoring; the measure required to ensure non-interference with migratory fish; the conditions governing the movement of fish; and the measure to be taken in the event of disease being diagnosed on the farm.

Plans must be submitted to and approved by my Department in advance of construction and other conditions may be added to cater for individual licensing requirements.

It is open to me to revoke a fish culture licence if I am satisfied that there has been a breach of any specified condition.
