Vol. 373 No. 1

Written Answers. - Kowloon Bridge Casualty.

16.

asked the Minister for the Marine the total cost of the removal of oil from the Kowloon Bridge; the measures which are being taken to recover the cost of the operation from the owners of the vessel; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is not possible at this stage to give a final figure for the cost of the oil removal operation from the Kowloon Bridge as final accounts have not yet been submitted. It is expected, however, that the final cost is likely to be in the region of £400,000.

The insurers for the owners of the Kowloon Bridge have stated that the owners' legal liabilities arising out of the incident will be met. Legal action will be taken if necessary to enforce these liabilities.
