Vol. 373 No. 2

Written Answers. - VECs' Travelling and Subsistence Expenses.

294.

asked the Minister for Education the total amount given to the vocational education committees in 1986 for travelling and subsistence expenses in connection with their local meetings, national meetings, and conferences at home and abroad, showing separately between full time officials, the committees and appointed members, and the amount provided for in 1987.

My Department does not designate particular amounts for travelling and subsistence expenses in allocating resources to vocational education committees.

Allocations are made to VECs under a number of broad expenditure headings. The travelling and subsistence expenditure falls to be met within the allocation for administration costs.

Out-turn data available to my Department show the following expenditure in this area by VECs in 1986:

£

Travelling and Subsistence Expenses of Office Staff

309,711

Members' Expenses

396,867

Delegates' Expenses

153,685

Total

£860,263
