Written Answers. - Social Employment Scheme.
Statistics in relation to the social employment scheme are compiled on the basis of National Manpower Service regions. Details on a county basis will be available only when the records of the scheme are completely computerised.
The south-east region which encompasses Counties Waterford, Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny and Tipperary (S.R.) was the first area to launch projects under the social employment scheme in April 1985 and by December 1985 there were 852 persons participating in the SES in the region. Participation continued to increase in 1986 and reached a peak of 1,413 persons employed in midyear. Due to participants completing their term of employment under the scheme, participation showed a small steady decrease for the remainder of 1986 and stood at 1,072 by year end.
There are currently 815 persons participating in the SES in the south-east region. The regional quota has been increased recently from 1,024 to 1,244 man-years. This will allow for a significant increase in the number of participants in the region over the coming months.
