asked the Minister for Education if it has been communicated to her that vocational education committees will not co-operate with the development of those community schools for which deeds of trust have not so far been signed by the vocational education committee's concerned; the vocational education committee's refusal to sign deeds of trust mean that the community schools in question will cease to be community schools; if she will list those community schools in respect of which deeds of trust have been signed; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that, resulting from a resolution passed by the Irish Vocational Education Association in 1985, vocational education committees have refused to sign deeds of trust for new community schools. This does not imply a refusal to co-operate in the efficient running of the schools in question since the relevant vocational education committees have, with one exception, nominated, their representatives to the board of managements of the schools. I cannot accept that the status of community schools, or the quality of education being provided in them, has in any way been diminished.
