Vol. 373 No. 8

Written Answers. - Examination Fee Refund.

257.

asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that a refund of fees in respect of the intermediate certificate examination issues to to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 who is due to take up employment and will not be taking the examination; the reason it was not possible to have this information provided to Deputy Gay Mitchell by telephone; and the amount it costs to answer this query; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Applications to sit the intermediate certificate examination can be accepted only from the authorities of recognised post-primary schools on the prescribed entry form. Consequently, an application can be cancelled and the question of a refund considered only on receipt of a written request from the school which entered the candidate originally.

The above information was, I understand, given to the Deputy on the telephone. I am sure that the Deputy will realise that it would not be appropriate to discuss matters of a confidential nature relating to an individual candidate on the telephone.

The cost of answering this query is estimated at £25.
