asked the Minister for Justice if the gardaí at Clondalkin, Dublin 22 are inadequately furnished with mobile units; whether they urgently require an additional Garda car or motorcycle; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will make a statement on the level of gardaí based at the Clondalkin station in Dublin 22; and if arrangements will be made to increase the gardaí at this station to meet the needs of the central Clondalkin area and also the local regions at Bawnogue and Lealand.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 61 to 63, inclusive, together.
The detailed allocation of manpower and official transport to individual stations is a matter for the Garda authorities in the light of their assessment of needs and having regard to overall resources and demands on Garda services.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that the current Garda strength at Clondalkin is 58 and that this strength is considered to be adequate to meet the needs of all areas served from the station, including Lealand and Bawnogue. The position will, however, continue to be kept under review.
As regards the question of assigning a bangharda to Clondalkin, I understand that at present the station accommodation there is not suitable for such an assignment, but that the problem may be overcome if a proposal to convert the adjoining married quarters into station accommodation is found to be feasible. In the meantime, there is an arrangement whereby banghardaí attached to the district headquarters station at Ballyfermot are available to attend to cases in the Clondalkin sub-district, as the need arises, and the Garda authorities consider that this arrangement is working satisfactorily.
In so far as the allocation of official transport is concerned, the Garda authorities consider that the current allocation of two cars and two motor cycles to Clondalkin station is adequate. If necessary, the Garda transport allocated to Ballyfermot or Ronanstown stations can be called on to provide added cover for the Clondalkin area.
