I have direct responsibility for recruitment to the Civil Service only. Appointments to the Civil Service are made following open competitions organised by the Civil Service Commission. Some competitions have lower age limits for applicants and these range from 17 years to 19 years. Upper age limits vary from 20 years to 55 years depending on the competition.
Experience has shown that competitions with upper age limits provide an adequate and suitable candidature taking account of the nature of the grades. Age limits are kept under continuing review.
