Vol. 373 No. 10

Written Answers. - Prison Service Consultation.

22.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will arrange an early meeting with the Prison Officers Association with a view to restoring co-operation and consultation within the prison service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are regular meetings, both formal and informal, between officers of my Department and the Prison Officers Association. I am not aware of any serious problem regarding co-operation and consultation in the prison service. Obviously, there comes a stage in relation to most problems where consultation must be concluded and decisions taken by those whose responsibility it is to take such decisions and the prison service is no exception in this regard.
