Vol. 373 No. 13

Written Answers. - Multi-Denominational Primary School.

233.

asked the Minister for Education the steps, if any she has taken or intends to take to fulfil her election programme commitment to the development of a multi-denominational primary school along the lines of the Bray, County Wicklow, Dalkey, County Dublin and Glasnevin, Dublin 7 schools; if it is her Department's policy to prohibit the patrons of such schools from establishing more than one such school each unlike the patrons of denominational schools who may establish several denominational schools within a given area; and, if so, the basis for this policy.

Applications for the recognition of multi-denominational schools are considered on their merits in accordance with the prescribed criteria. There is no difference in the treatment of denominational and multi-denominational schools by my Department in regard to patronship or in any other respect.
