Vol. 373 No. 13

Written Answers. - Milk Distribution.

29.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has satisfied himself that the present system of allocation of milk distribution is not being abused; if he will make a statement regarding the suggestion that the additional increments to milk quotas are being purchased; and if his attention has been drawn to any such abuses.

I am satisfied that the milk quota system is being operated in accordance with the Community regulations. Under these regulations the sale and leasing of quotas can take place only if the lands to which the quotas are attached are also sold and leased. No cases involving sales or leases of quota without the land attached have been brought to my Department's notice. Officials of my Department monitor quota transfers and if they become aware of irregular transactions the penalties provided for in the national regulations will be applied to the parties concerned and the full super-levy charged on all milk deliveries from the lands in question.
