asked the Minister for Health in relation to each personal assistant, adviser, consultant, typist, secretary, or other category employed from outside the Civil Service in a temporary or part time or permanent capacity, or on a contractual basis since, 10 March, the name, rank, remuneration and terms of employment and if seconded, from where.

Details of those employed in the categories listed above in my Department since 10 March 1987 are as follows:

Ms. C. Byrne, Personal Secretary to the Minister — on secondment from her post as Secretarial Assistant in the Houses of the Oireachtas. She is paid her previous salary plus an allowance of £13.88p payable in respect of her duties as Personal Secretary.

Mrs. M. Leyden, Personal Secretary to the Minister of State — on secondment from her post as Secretarial Assistant in the Houses of the Oireachtas. She is paid her previous salary plus an allowance of £13.88p payable in respect of her duties as Personal Secretary.

Mr. R. Herlihy, Financial Accountant — assisting on a consultancy basis in the installation of financial systems in the Southern Health Board. Mr. Herlihy is on secondment from Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children and continues to receive his previous salary which is recouped by my Department to the hospital authorities.

Mr. F. Dunlop of Marray Consultants — employed on a part-time basis to provide advice on public relations. To date he has been paid a total of £6,984.36p less appropriate deduction in respect of Withholding Tax.

Mr. R. Kenny

Mr. L. Satchwell — Civilian Drivers — appointed in a temporary capacity. Their remuneration is at the rate of £202.48 per week and their employment will terminate not later than the date on which the Minister of State ceases to hold office.

asked the Minister for Health the number of persons employed in (1) the constituency office and (2) the private office of himself and his Minister of State, the rank of each person and the salary paid; if he will outline the functions of the constituency office and the private office; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Details of the numbers employed in my private and constituency offices and those of my Minister for State are as follows:

Private Office:

2 Higher Executive Officers

1 Executive Officer

1 Clerical Officer

4 Clerical Assistants.

Constituency Office:

1 Higher Executive Officer

1 Clerical Officer

1 Clerical Assistant

1 Personal Secretary

Minister of State:

1 Executive Officer

3 Clerical Assistants

1 Personal Secretary.

The above mentioned officers are paid in accordance with the salary scales appropriate to their grades. In addition one of the Higher Executive Officers in my private office and the Executive Officer in the Minister of State's Office are in receipt of an allowance of £4,182 per annum in respect of their duties as Private Secretaries.

Private office is involved with day to day running of my office.

Constituency office supports my role as public representative.
