Vol. 374 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Galway National School.

258.

asked the Minister for Education the reason Letterfrack national school County Galway has still no proper classroom; and the reason her Department's estimate for a classroom is £70,000 to £80,000 when the price quoted by a local registered builder is approximately £40,000.

My Department has prepared tender documentation for an extension by way of a permanent classroom, a staff room, a library/medical room and other ancillary accommodation at Letterfrack National School, County Galway. Because of the very difficult financial situation my Department is not in a position at this time to invite tenders for the project.

It is not the practice of my Department to disclose the financial details of individual projects which are the subject of grant applications. This information must be treated as confidential between the school authorities and my Department. I can, however, say that local contractors would have the opportunity in due course of tendering for the project, as tenders would be publicly sought.
