Vol. 374 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rathmore (County Kildare) National School.

272.

asked the Minister for Education the status of the tender documents and final drawings regarding the proposed extension to the Rathmore National School, Rathmore, Naas, County Kildare; and whether she will expedite the preparation of such documents in the immediate future.

273.

asked the Minister for Education the developments, if any, which have taken place in regard to the extension of facilities at Rathmore national school, Rathmore, Naas, County Kildare; the details of recent proposals made to the parent-teacher association; whether these proposals are in line with previous indications; if they have been agreed by parents and teachers; if these recent proposals issued from her Department, and if she will make a statement on the matter, with particular reference to the extension of the school.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 272 and 273 together. The building project, comprising three classrooms and a general purposes area, for Rathmore national school, County Kildare, had been listed for preparation of working drawings, which would in due course form part of the tender documentation. It will not, however, be possible to advance this project further at the present time because of pressure on my Department's capital provision. In the shorter term my Department has been in touch with the chairman of the school board of management on the question of grant-aid for two prefabricated classrooms to relieve the school's immediate accommodation needs and for improvements to the existing building. It is understood that this offer is acceptable and that the way is clear for the invitation of tenders for the work.

My Department's Primary Buildings Branch will advise the chairman of the board as to when it may be possible to continue processing the scheme of permanent building.
