Vol. 374 No. 1

Written Answers. - Disclosure of Contributions to Political Parties.

32.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will introduce legislation to compel persons or enterprises contributing to political parties to disclose the nature and size of such contribution; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is not my intention to introduce legislation on this subject. First, the question of contributions to political parties by individual persons would not fall within the area of my official responsibilities. Secondly, I am not satisfied that the making of such contributions by enterprises constitutes in itself an abuse which should be addressed in any code of law for which I am responsible.
