Vol. 374 No. 2

Written Answers. - Naas Hospital.

74.

asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to a recent media report (details supplied) regarding the future of the County Hospital, Naas, County Kildare; if he will indicate his plans regarding the future and extension of services and facilities at Naas Hospital; when he proposes to allow the next stage of the development to proceed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The question of the provision of services at Naas Hospital is a matter for the Eastern Health Board in the first instance. I can assure the Deputy that there are no proposals before the board or in my Department to close the hospital or reduce services further at the hospital in the foreseeable future.

Tenders have now been received in my Department for the development of a new psychiatric unit and boiler house at the County Hospital, Naas. These are being examined at present with a view to scheduling the provision of these facilities having regard to the availability of capital funds.
