Vol. 374 No. 9

Written Answers. - Vaccination Campaign.

177.

asked the Minister for Health the cost of the advertising campaign promoting vaccination.

178.

asked the Minister for Health the allocation of funds by each health board to cover the cost of the vaccination campaign; the number of people this will cover; and the average cost per person.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 177 and 178 together. Mass vaccination is not recommended by my Department for the attempted control of the spread of influenza but to give individual protection to groups most at-risk. Groups at-risk are indicated each year in a Departmental circular and are identified locally by the Director of Community Care/Medical Officers of Health. Therefore, no advertising campaign is required.

I am getting from each health board information in respect of the cost of influenza vaccination, the number of persons which this will cover and the average cost per person, and will transmit it to the Deputy as soon as possible.
