Vol. 375 No. 8

Written Answers. - Housing List Average.

102.

asked the Minister for the Environment the average cost to the Exchequer of housing a family of husband, wife and three children in terms of building costs.

I assume the Deputy is referring to houses provided by housing authorities for letting.

The average estimated all-in cost of providing a new local authority three bedroomed house is approximately £32,000. The current estimated weekly cost to the Exchequer to finance the capital sum of £32,000 required to provide such a dwelling is £68. The average management and maintenance costs for all local authority houses amount to £11 per week which are funded by the local authority. These costs are partly offset by an average weekly rent of £7.
