Vol. 376 No. 2

Written Answers. - Customs Clearance.

29.

asked the Minister for Finance the arrangements which have been made for computerising the customs clearance section of the port and docks.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that they have recently completed a feasibility study on the computerisation of customs clearance procedures at the various points of entry to the State. Following this study, approval was sought from my Department to proceed with the development of an automated customs entry processing system. Approval in principle has now been given to proceed with the initial planning work on this project.

The Revenue Commissioners have set up a customs management advisory group (which includes a representative from my Department) to review the various issues needing decision in advance of the finalisation of a development and implementation plan for customs computerisation. This group hope to complete their work during the first half of 1988.
