Vol. 377 No. 1

Written Answers. - EOLAS Deficit.

179.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has asked the IIRS to consider the sale of assets to eliminate its £900,000 cumulated deficit; and if he has asked the IIRS to make a statement on its plans and target date for the elimination of the deficit.

The Institute for Industrial Research and Standards is now known as EOLAS — The Irish Science and Technology Agency following the enactment of the Science and Technology Act, 1987.

I have requested the agency to closely monitor the deficit position with a view to (i) ensuring that it will not increase, and (ii) eliminating it as soon as possible.

The agency will consider all possible means of complying with this request.
