Vol. 377 No. 3

Written Answers. - Collaros, County Kerry, Harbour.

86.

asked the Minister for the Marine (1) whether those who are placing barrels in Collaros Harbour near Lauragh, County Kerry, are authorised to do so; and if not the action he proposes to take to remedy the situation as the harbour is blocked up.

87.

asked the Minister for the Marine the names of all applicants for aquaculture licences for Kilmackillogue and Collaros harbours, County Kerry; and the names of all those with licences.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 86 and 87 together.

One person has been authorised to place structures in Collaros Harbour under the Foreshore Act, 1933. There are a number of other people who have applied for permission to place structures in the sea in Collaros and Kilmackillogue Harbours. These applications are now being processed. The position with regard to unauthorised aquaculture operations in this area is now being regularised by means of aquaculture licences under section 54 of the Fisheries Act, 1980. It is my intention that when aquaculture licences are issued, all unauthorised operators will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

It would not be appropriate to supply the names of the licence applicants at this point.
