Vol. 377 No. 4

Written Answers. - Galway Local Authority.

13.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the financial resources made available and the number of local authority houses built in County Galway in 1986 and 1987; and the financial resources he has made available to the local authority in Galway in 1988.

Galway County Council's capital allocation for local authority housing was £4,450,000 in 1986 and £1,743,000 in 1987. The corresponding figure for Ballinasloe Urban District Council was £80,750 in 1986. No allocation was made to the urban council in 1987, since they did not expect to have to meet any capital expenditure on schemes in that year. Galway County Council completed 218 houses in 1986 and 98 houses in 1987. Ballinasloe Urban District Council did not have any completions in either year.

In relation to 1988, each housing authority has been asked to submit its claim for a capital allocation for its 1988 housing construction programme. Pending receipt and examination of these claims, it is not possible to indicate what funds will be made available to individual authorities to finance their programme in the current year.
