It is not my intention to reduce the availability of genetic counselling. I am aware of the problems that the lack of such counselling can lead to.
The current difficulties have arisen because of problems with the staffing of the cyto-genetic laboratory service at the Children's Hospital, Temple Street.
My officials will be meeting representatives of the hospital tomorrow and will be discussing the matter with them.
