Vol. 379 No. 10

Written Answers. - Donaghmede (Dublin) Schools.

70.

asked the Minister for Education when the refurbishment scheme for Holy Trinity schools, Donaghmede, Dublin 13, will proceed as promised; when the work is likely to commence; and if it will be completed in such time to enable the school to avail of alternative accommodation at Donaghmede shopping centre.

71.

asked the Minister for Education when her Department's officials will inspect the newly acquired furniture for Holy Trinity school, Donaghmede, Dublin 13 to the value of £1,917.50 so as to allow payment to the supplier; and if her attention has been drawn to the fact that this payment is outstanding since September, 1987.

64.

asked the Minister for Education the proposals she has to deal with the serious problems of dereliction and damage arising from the abandonment of the school/community hall at Holy Trinity senior school, Donaghmede, Dublin 13; if repair work on the hall will be undertaken this year; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose taking Questions Nos. 70, 71 and 64 together.

My Department have agreed to grant-aid an improvement scheme for Holy Trinity national school and Scoil Bride national school, Donaghmede. Detailed proposals and tender recommendations for the works submitted by the school authorities are being examined in my Department. A decision will be conveyed to the school authorities at an early date. The arrangements for alternative accommodation during the course of the works are a matter for the school authorities with whom the Department are in close contact. I understand that the necessary alternative accommodation will be available as required.

I am aware that the school/community hall is in very poor condition. In November 1987 the school authorities requested that it be demolished and replaced by a new hall to serve both schools. The Department would be prepared to consider grant-aiding the demolition of the premises and the re-instatement of the ground subject to receipt of proposals and costings from the school authorities for these works. It would not be open to the Department at this time to grant-aid the provision of a new hall for the schools.

My Department's professional advisers will inspect the furniture supplied to Holy Trinity school at an early date and if it is satisfactory the usual grant will be paid.
