Vol. 379 No. 10

Written Answers. - Institutional Geriatric Care.

63.

asked the Minister for Health whether health boards have a duty for providing institutional geriatric care for those in need; and if so, the reason such care has not been provided for a person (details supplied) in County Cork who is 85 years old and is arthritic.

Health boards have the statutory responsibility for providing health care services for those who need them.

The person referred to by the Deputy was assessed by the Southern Health Board for long term care and was placed on the waiting list for Clonakilty Home. I understand that this person is resident in a private nursing home.
