Vol. 380 No. 5

Written Answers. - Sanctions against South Africa.

33.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will take an initiative within the EC (a) to have the current level of western sanctions against South Africa intensified and (b) to have support for the SADCC states increased.

It is Government policy to work, within the Twelve, for the adoption of further common measures with regard to South Africa such as a ban on imports of coal and fruit and vegetables from South Africa. I shall continue to press for actions such as these by the Twelve.

The level of support for the countries of SADCC from the EC is kept under review. I do not propose to take an initiative regarding increased support for SADCC at this time.
