Vol. 380 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Boards' Legal Fees.

68.

asked the Minister for Health the total sums expended by way of legal fees by each of the health boards in each of the last five years; and the nature of the problems for which legal advice and assistance was sought by each of the health boards during that period.

The information requested by the Deputy is being collected from the health boards and I will communicate directly with the Deputy as soon as it becomes available. However, in general, legal expenses incurred by health boards arise from the leasing, purchase and sale of property; collection of health contributions and hospital charges; prosecutions under the food hygiene regulations; personnel issues; ward of court proceedings; interpretation of legislation and general advice on service entitlements.
