Vol. 380 No. 7

Written Answers. - Medical Laboratory Technicians Remuneration.

148.

asked the Minister for Health whether he has established any guidelines for a unified system of payment of medical laboratory trainee technicians throughout the country.

The placement of third year students for the practical element of the certificate course in medical laboratory sciences and the number of such placements are primarily matters between the colleges providing the course and the chief executive officer of the health board accepting the students on placement. While payment of a uniform allowance on a nationwide basis to students on placement would be desirable, the level of the allowance in any health board area allied to the financial position of that board will determine the extent to which such students can be facilitated.
