Vol. 380 No. 7

Written Answers. - Independent Appeals System.

68.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the plans, if any, he has to start an independent appeals system for persons appealing decisions for supplementary welfare; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In line with the commitment made in the Programme for National Recovery I am considering what changes, if any, are required in the social welfare appeals system with particular regard to ensuring that the system is perceived to be fair. The question of appeals under the supplementary welfare allowance scheme is being considered in that context. I intend to bring proposals in this area before the Government shortly.
