Vol. 380 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tenant Purchase Scheme.

70.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the anomaly which exists under the 1988 tenant purchase scheme in relation to the minimum sale price of £4,000 whereby non-serviced houses in remote rural areas which would be valued under £4,000 will have the same sale price as certain desirable and fully serviced houses in urban areas valued at around £12,000; and if he has any proposals to facilitate such tenants.

76.

asked the Minister for the Environment if in the interests of equity, he will propose to adapt the terms of the 1988 tenant purchase scheme in order that the net repayments of unemployed purchasers is the same as the net repayments of employed purchasers who can claim tax rebate; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 70 and 76 together. I consider the terms of the 1988 scheme to be very favourable to tenant purchasers and I do not intend to alter its terms.
