Vol. 380 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tenant Purchase Scheme.

73.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has considered under the tenant purchase scheme 1988 allowing some form of discount to persons who were tenants on 1 January 1988 and who subsequently purchased their houses under a previous purchase scheme at considerably higher cost.

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Questions Nos. 71-75 on 16 March 1988.

74.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, under the 1988 tenant purchase scheme, he has any proposals to allow the £2,000 discount in lieu of new house grants to previous house purchasers who were rehoused by local authorities by reason of the fact that their existing accommodation was unfit for human habitation and incapable of repair at reasonable cost; where such houses may have been repurchased by the local authority as part of the site for the new house; and where a demolition order or closing order was made on the property; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The £2,000 discount in lieu of the £2,000 new house grant is available to a tenant who has not previously built or purchased a dwelling. It is open to local authorities, who are responsible for the administration of the scheme, to seek clarification in relation to an applicant's eligibility for the discount in circumstances such as those outlined by the Deputy.
