Vol. 381 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tenant Purchase Scheme.

81.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of the concessions made by the then Government to local authority tenant purchasers prior to 1974, after the 1974 sales scheme was announced which was more favourable than earlier schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Following the introduction on a national basis of a formula price method for calculating the sale price of local authority houses, it was decided, in 1977 and 1978, that the last quarter of the repayment period would be waived in full or in part for tenants who purchased their houses by annuity under schemes operated by local authorities between 1967 and June 1973 at a price higher than that under the 1973 scheme. Tenants who purchased their houses outright in the same period or who had redeemed the outstanding purchase annuity prior to 1 March 1978 were eligible for a refund of one quarter of the difference between the pre-July 1973 price and the price applicable in July 1973.

82.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of representations he has received from local authority tenant purchasers who purchased prior to the announcement of the 1988 sales scheme seeking revised terms as favourable as the 1988 scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Records are not retained in the Department of the number or type of representations received.
