Vol. 381 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dental Treatment.

83.

asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Western Health Board are now refusing applications for adult dental treatment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that the Western Health Board has suspended the provision of routine dental treatment for eligible adults since 1984 and that the board has decided to add no further names to the lists of those awaiting dental treatment. However, the board continues to provide emergency treatment on request for adults who are experiencing pain or who might be regarded as medical emergencies.

The allocation of available funds between the different services it provides is entirely a matter for the Western Health Board.
