Vol. 381 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Louth Geriatric Services.

84.

asked the Minister for Health in relation to rationalisation of geriatric services in Drogheda, County Louth (1) the cost of the proposed changes, (2) the use to be made of St. Mary's site in the future, (3) the back-up which will be available to Boyne View Welfare Home (4) who will own the Cottage Hospital and (5) who will meet the cost of proposed alterations.

The following information relates to the specific points raised by the Deputy: It is estimated that the annual reduction in cost will be in the order of £500,000. This is a matter for determination in the first instance by the health board. Boyne View Welfare Home will receive the same back-up as heretofore. Actual ownership as such will be retained by the authorities of the Cottage Hospital, and these costs will be met by the North-Eastern Health Board from funds made available by my Department.
