Vol. 381 No. 2

Written Answers. - GMS Contract.

47.

asked the Minister for Health if he has received a report from the Chairman of the Labour Court, on discussions which were due to conclude on 20 May 1988 between his Department and the Irish Medical Organisation regarding a new general medical service contract and common contract for doctors; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On the matter of the on-going discussions between management and the Irish Medical Organisation regarding an alternative from of contract for doctors participating in the GMS Scheme, Mr. John Horgan, who was invited by both sides to chair the discussions, has requested both sides to clarify their position on certain aspects of the issues under discussion.

In the circumstances, it was decided to extend the target date for completion of these discussions by one month. These discussions relate to the GMS and do not affect the consultants' common contract, on which discussions are continuing separately.
