Vol. 381 No. 8

Written Answers. - State Bodies.

139.

asked the Minister for Energy the names and functions of the commissions, committees and State-sponsored bodies abolished by him during his term of office to date; and the names and functions of the commissions, committees and State-sponsored bodies set up by him or proposed to be set up by him since taking office.

To date, no commissions, committees or State-sponsored bodies have been abolished or set up by me during my term of office. However I do propose to establish two new State-sponsored bodies, the names and functions of which are as follows:

(a) A National Radiological Protection Institute to replace the Nuclear Energy Board. The main function of the Institute will be to monitor radiation safety and to advise the Government on the measures necessary to protect the public from radiation hazards. The new Institute will also provide advice to the Government on developments relating to nuclear energy in other countries.

(b) Coillte Teoranta or the Irish Forestry Board Ltd., whose function will be to carry out the State's forestry programme.
