Vol. 381 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dublin Eye and Ear Hospital.

64.

asked the Minister for Health whether it is his intention to retain or close down the Eye and Ear Hospital in Adelaide Road, Dublin 2; and if he will outline the plans he has for the ophthalmological services on the south side of Dublin city.

I have already stated that it is my Department's policy that specialised services such as ophthalmology should be located on a general hospital campus. In accordance with this policy it is proposed to transfer the services at present located at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital to appropriate general hospitals in Dublin and to the Midland Health Board.

The principal centre for ophthalmic services will be at St. Vincent's Hospital. Appropriate services, will also be provided at other centres in South Dublin, including St. James's Hospital.
