Vol. 382 No. 10

Written Answers. - Beladd House, County Laois.

67.

asked the Minister for Justice the use to which the accommodation at Beladd House, Portlaoise, County Laois, is being put at present; when it was last used for accommodating trainee prison officers; the plans he has for its use in the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Beladd House is the prison service training centre and is currently being used by training staff engaged in course preparation work. Recruit prison officers were being trained in the centre almost continuously for several months up to the end of March 1988. A number of courses which were to have been held in Beladd House in the last couple of months had to be postponed due to industrial action on the part of prison staff generally. Several courses have been arranged for the centre later in the year and other courses are currently being planned.
