Vol. 382 No. 11

Written Answers. - Refugee Status.

52.

asked the Minister for Justice if it is proposed to grant refugee status to persons (details supplied) and if not, the reason.

The persons referred to in the question had their applications for refugee status considered by my Department by reference to the United Nations 1951 Convention and the 1967 Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees. The representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Department of Foreign Affairs were consulted.

Following consideration of their cases, it was decided that they did not qualify for refugee status under the Convention and Protocol.
