Vol. 383 No. 1

Written Answers. - Waterford Private Hospital.

273.

asked the Minister for Health if he has any objection to a private hospital in Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am concerned that both public and private hospital services should be provided in a rational, effective and integrated manner and that duplication of or inappropriate use of resources should be avoided.

While I have no objection in principle to the development of a private hospital in Waterford I believe that this should be considered in the context of the massive development at Ardkeen Hospital. The recognition for insurance purposes of a private hospital in Waterford is an operational matter for the Voluntary Health Insurance Board.
