Vol. 383 No. 8

Written Answers. - Designation of County Cork Area.

18.

asked the Minister for Education if she will consider designating the Glanmire area of County Cork as an educationally deprived area since there is no second-level school in the area and children have to be transported to schools in other areas of Cork city and county; and if she will make special funds available for transporting the children of the Glanmire/Riverstown area to second-level schools some distance from them.

The question of designating the Glanmire area to County Cork as an educationally deprived area does not arise.

The Riverstown and Glanmire areas are with the Cork City post-primary catchment area. Consequently post-primary pupils from these areas are entitled to transport facilities subject to the general regulations governing the school transport scheme. This scheme operates on a national basis, therefore, there can be no question of providing special funds for transporting pupils from the Glanmire/Riverstown area.
