Vol. 385 No. 2

Written Answers. - Waiving Technical School Fees.

222.

asked the Minister for Education if she will waive the expensive fees for students who hold medical cards taking technological certificates, particularly those taking secretarial courses at advanced level.

I take it that the Deputy is referring to my Department's technological and commerce certificate examinations. These examinations are part of the technical schools' scheme of examinations and are intended primarily for evening students. There is no provision for waiving entry fees in the case of these examinations solely. Where, however, a student is entered for the leaving certificate or day vocational (group) certificate examinations, in addition to the technical schools examinations, there is provision for a reduction in the combined fee payable. I might add that the entry fee in respect of the advanced level of the technical schools examinations, £30 per subject, has not been increased since 1983.
